Cortes de Cima Touriga Nacional

Best known as one of the 5 main varieties used for Port wine, further south here in the Alentejo it’s fruit develops a highly floral and aromatic character.

Vintage

Harvest 2012, our 17th harvest. A record cold and dry winter, followed by a cold and wet spring. Superlative summer. All in all, a quality driven vintage!

Vinification

Made exclusively from Touriga Nacional grapes, grown sustainably in our own vineyards. Fermented without stems under temperature control, frequent delestage, followed by extended skin maceration to enhance varietal fruit characters, and to provide tannin structure and balance. Aged for 8 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes

Reviews

"Floral, violet and red plum aromas matched by creamy oak. An intense palate with kalamata olive, blackcurrant and tapenade. Good acidity, balanced powerful tannins and fruit highly persistent and rich."   - 92 points, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED – DECANTER

"This monovarietal doesn’t go for the obvious or concentration; it is all about the elegance and the aromatics. If it is a bit understated in some ways, it is also fragrant, rather crisp and quite graceful. It adds, happily, a fine backbone for support. It is approachable, but capable of improving with a few years of cellaring as well. Lingering on the finish, it demonstrates that finesse is not synonymous with wimpy. It does need a bit of air to make that point. Overall, this beautifully balanced Touriga is probably the winery’s best Touriga yet." – 90 points,  Mark Squires, Robert Parker

Ripe and luscious - very confident - with good balance of fruit, tannin and acidity. Drinking well now.”  Score 17/20 -  Jancis Robinson
