The mystery name refers to a time when Syrah was not permitted in Alentejo. In 1991, we were the first ones to plant Syrah in the Alentejo, choosing rootstock from southern Rhone clones. Incógnito is sourced from a single vineyard 9c, from our oldest Syrah plantings, grown on a limestone hillside.
Vintage 2011 experienced new record-breaking climatic extremes, both in winter rainfall and summer heat. A difficult growing season and harvest due to delayed ripening. Fine harvest weather.
Our Winemakers Comments
Heady mix of wild red berry fruits, toasty oak, complex meat and tarry notes. Deeply layered palate of ripe berry fruits, lovely balance, soft at first but then firming up with great tannin structure, nice freshness with acidity adding to a long and persistent finish. Excellent example of a great year, elegant and well structured version of Incognito, will keep well for at least 10 years.

"This is a fine Incógnito year. Silky and intensely flavorful, this is beautifully constructed with moderate tannins at this point. It still shows a bit too much oak, but that should continue to moderate. Despite the elegance and silk, it also has a subtle lushness to it and a tasty conclusion that makes itrather sexy. Its upperlevel sibling this year, the Reserva, seems a bit more brooding and structured by contrast. They both show great. This is very flavorful and completely delicious." – Mark Squires, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
"The 2011 Incognito certainly appears to be a terrific one. Showing fine concentration, this has plenty of Syrah character, a juicy finish and gradually emerging tannins for support. Showing depth, finesse and structure, not to mention seeming quite delicious, it is likely one of the best the brand has ever produced. Drink 2015-2027." – Mark Squires, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
"This Syrah-based wine is dense, concentrated and seriously ageworthy. It is weighted by concentrated black fruit, with solid tannic structure and fine acidity on the finish." –Roger Voss – WINE ENTHUSIAST
"A rich, ripe cassis aroma with notes of lifted parma violet and a fresh red-fruit texture, along with a dense palate of dried blueberry and sweet fruit." – DECANTER Magazine UK
