Cortes de Cima Aragonez

Known as Tempranillo in Spain, and Tinta Roriz in the north of Portugal. Always an elegant wine, it has richness with structure and outstanding tannins, which impart a good ageing ability.

Vintage

Harvest 2012, our 17th harvest. A record cold and dry winter, followed by a cold and wet spring. Superlative summer. All in all, a quality driven vintage!

Vinification

Made from selected Aragonez (Tempranillo) grapes grown sustainably in our own vineyards. Fermented without stems under temperature control, frequent delestage, followed by extended skin maceration to enhance varietal fruit characters, and to provide tannin structure and balance. Aged for 12 months in French Oak (90%) and American Oak (10%), and then blended to give balanced varietal fruit and oak components.

Reviews

Red fruits, lovely oak and dense, very ripe, complex and long. Floral aromatics. – International Wine Challenge

A bold, rich wine fringed with tannins, at a young age it already shows a solid structure of ripe and juicy berry tones. With well-balanced oak ageing, slightly toasty notes show restraint on this dark and complex wine that has potential to age. – Roger Voss – Wine Enthusiast

Light in the mid-palate, rather tight and a bit tannic on the finish, this is a pointed Aragonez with more power than flesh. It also has a bit of a eucalyptus nuance in the background, which makes it a bit distinctive at times in flavor profile. Overall, it should make a great food wine and it is quite charming. – Mark Squires, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
